Between Chapters is a spoiler-safe reading companion. Once you tell it your current chapter, it generates recaps, character lists, and answers to your questions through AI chat, all limited to what you've actually read. This limit is enforced by Spoiler Shield: when the app can't be confident exactly where your read-to position is, it declines to answer rather than risk revealing something ahead of it.
Your right to install and use the app itself is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement on iOS, or the Google Play Terms of Service on Android. These Terms of Service govern everything else: your account, your subscription, and your use of the Between Chapters service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Between Chapters. Every install starts with an anonymous account automatically; you can optionally link an Apple or Google account to keep your library synced across devices. You're responsible for keeping your device and any linked account secure, and for all activity under your account.
Between Chapters offers a Free plan (one book, limited chapter updates and chat messages) and a paid All Access plan ($5.99/month or $69.99/year, introductory pricing) that removes the Free plan's limits. All Access includes a monthly AI usage allowance (a fair-use limit) covering books, chapter updates, and chat messages, which resets at the start of each calendar month and keeps the service fast for everyone.
Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play, auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and follow those platforms' own billing and refund policies — we don't process payments or issue refunds directly. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
Don't use Between Chapters to extract, reproduce, or redistribute copyrighted book text at scale; to abuse, overload, or circumvent the fair-use or rate limits on the service; or to use chat for anything unlawful, harmful, or unrelated to the book you're reading. We may limit or suspend accounts that misuse the service.
Between Chapters, our logo, and the app's design and features are our property or licensed to us, and these terms don't grant you any rights in them beyond what's needed to use the app. Recaps, character lists, and chat answers generated for you are yours to use personally, but the underlying app and technology remain ours.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you agree we can use them to improve Between Chapters without any obligation or payment to you.
Recaps, character lists, and chat answers are generated by AI based on the reading position you provide, and may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate. They're a reading aid, not a substitute for the book itself. Spoiler Shield is designed to reduce the risk of the app revealing something ahead of your reading position, but we can't guarantee it will catch every case — treat it as a safeguard, not an absolute guarantee.
You can stop using Between Chapters and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these terms or misuse the service, and may modify or discontinue the service at any time.
Deleting the app from your device, or deleting your Between Chapters account, does not cancel an active subscription. Subscriptions must be cancelled directly through the platform you subscribed with — the Apple App Store or Google Play — in accordance with its billing terms. Uninstalling the app or deleting your account will not stop billing, and we are unable to cancel or refund subscriptions on your behalf.
You agree to cover any claims, losses, or expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of Between Chapters or your violation of these terms.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Between Chapters is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including reliance on AI-generated content. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and any disputes will be handled in that jurisdiction's courts.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that can't lawfully be excluded. Where our liability can't be excluded but can be limited, it's limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.
We may update these terms from time to time, most often to reflect changes to the app or the law. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Between Chapters after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
We may assign these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign them without our consent. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Between Chapters, and our failure to enforce any part of them isn't a waiver of our right to do so later.
